Car Ferries on Krk |
|
The picture-postcard island of Krk is one of the oldest and most popular
holiday destinations on the northern Adriatic and lies in the Kvarner Bay.
Krk attracts visitors from all over the world. The typical Mediterranean
landscape, narrow, meandering alleyways and picturesque shale beaches have
lent the town its charming character for centuries. The island is linked to
the mainland by a bridge and those travelling by road also have the
opportunity to do a bit of island hopping by car ferry. The ferry leaves
from the harbour at Valbiska on Krk and sails to Lopar on the island of Rab
or to Merag on the island of Cres. Rab has mild winters and hot summers and is considered to be one of the sunniest towns in Europe. Summer visitors enjoy a special atmosphere as the town centre is transformed into one enormous art gallery full of street painters, as well as other cultural events in the "Knezev dvor" Gallery. A ferry service operates from Misnjak at the southern tip of Rab to the mainland to the east of the Kvarner Bay and the port of Jablanac. Cres is a largest mountainous island in the Adriatic with attractive hilltop and coastal towns. Its highest summit is Gorice at almost 650 metres. The Vrana Lake supplies the entire island with fresh water and for this reason, only a few local inhabitants have access to its shores and the surrounding mountain slopes are a restricted area. A ferry service operates from Porozina at the northern end of Cres to Brestova on the mainland to the west of the Kvarner Bay. |
