Fire hydrants obviously serve a more than useful purpose. They are essential
for fire-fighting services to gain access to water with sufficient pressure
to deal with serious fires. But hydrants have also become popular as street
art in towns all over the world. A sort of acceptable graffiti. In some
towns and villages, business people, local artists, students and other
individuals have even adopted hydrants to promote art and boost community
spirit by hand-painting them in unique ways. As one example, artists in
Cleveland, Ohio in the USA painted fire hydrants as a part of a street
beautification project. Pictures are from different countries.
