A4 motorway open day |
|
The A4 motorway section through Switzerland’s Knonaueramt region was planned
in the 1960s as a link between the metropolitan area of Zurich and Central
Switzerland. However construction was politically and legally blocked for
decades. At last, In 2009, the completion of the A4 through the Knonaueramt
region closed a frustrating gap in the national road network. On Sunday, 27 September 2009, in wonderful autumn weather, well over 20,000 people took the opportunity to explore the A4 on foot, with inline skates or by bike. The pictures below were taken in the Zurich area between Knonau and Affoltern am Albis. The motorway was officially opened on 13 November 2009 by Swiss Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger, in the presence of the heads of the two respective building departments, Heinz Tännler (Canton Zug) and Markus Kägi (Canton Zurich). The opening of the motorway represents an economic milestone for Canton Zug. |
